Implement Noise Restrictions on Fireworks to Protect Animals and Children
Implement Noise Restrictions on Fireworks to Protect Animals and Children
The Issue
As a pet owner, I have witnessed the distressing impact of loud fireworks on my dog. The noise causes him to foam at the mouth and shake in fear. Conversations with other pet owners have revealed that cats and dogs alike are affected by these explosive sounds. Recently, as a new grandmother, I've come to realize that we are quick to resort to ear defenders for our children rather than addressing the root cause - the excessive noise from fireworks.
Fireworks can reach up to 170 decibels - far beyond what human ears consider safe (120 decibels) and even more dangerous for animals with sensitive hearing (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association). This not only leads to stress and fear in our pets but also poses potential hearing damage risks for our children.
There seem to be a lot of products and medications available to help the distress prevention but this is at the cost of the owner or parent.
also due to the fact they make such a loud noise this encourages young groups of children to find it exciting to set them off potentially becoming injured.
We need legislation that implements noise restrictions on fireworks. By doing so, we can prevent unnecessary harm, distress, and death among animals while also protecting our children from potential hearing issues. It's time we prioritize safety over spectacle.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a safer environment for both animals and humans alike.
