We got our Savannah noise barrier!!!

Update from the noise barrier workshop 01/18/2024

The 8 foot tall noise barrier wall alongside part of Savannah, from Magnolia Boulevard to Plantation Parkway has been approved by TXDOT pending yes votes by the majority of homeowners directly adjacent to it.  Those houses are marked with a green dot on the map.  The deadline to vote is Jan 2.  We will reach out to those homeowners to make sure they turn in their votes if they haven’t done so already.  

I want to thank everyone who helped put this wall on the map.  TXDOT told us yesterday they started looking at a way to get us a wall when 4 Savannah neighbors spoke up at the first TXDOT workshop last year at Navo Middle School, so we owe a special thanks to Maggie Hernandez, Tony Chaidez-Santiago and Brandon Galler. When we noticed everyone else was getting a noise barrier and Savannah wasn’t we spent all evening talking to the road engineers, the noise abatement engineers and everyone at TXDOT that night that would listen to us! They looked at the sound studies again and noticed that we had a trail and an open-air soccer field that would qualify for a lower noise hindrance threshold and did another study.

After this first workshop, I reached out to the Savannah HOA board and the Elm Ridge Board and they both also reached out to TXDOT and helped promote our change.org petition.  Also a special shoutout to my Peachtree neigbors Meg Nethercutt Connie Dupuis Bourque and David McCord for helping spread the word and for blockwalking all of Peachtree and dropping off flyers. I am so grateful that we could all work together as Savannah neighbors and that we managed to receive a positive outcome.  Peachtree Village and all of Savannah will benefit from this wall. Not only for noise levels but also for the safety of our children, pets, and even the houses itself from a busy but needed 1385 expansion.
