Implement No-Kill Policies and Improve Conditions at Animal Shelters
The Issue
I've always loved dogs. They're not just pets or personal property; to me, they're members of our family that deserve love, care, and respect. It pains me immensely that many of them end up in animal shelters that may often euthanize animals to make room for others.
We urgently request changes in our local and national animal shelters, to declare them no-kill shelters, wherein each animal is given a chance at finding a loving home.
Currently, nearly 1.5 million animals (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) are euthanized each year in the United States. This is a heartbreaking statistic that we believe can eliminated (Humane Society of the United States).
In addition to implementing a no-kill policy every shelter should also strive to educate volunteers and staff about the right way to care for these animals. We request a proper training system to be put in place.
Moreover, additional play yards should be constructed to ensure that these animals receive the necessary exercise and social interaction that helps to improve their overall well-being.
Lastly, it’s of utmost importance that the shelters enforce strict adherence to the rules and protocols set in place for the safety and well-being of these animals.
Animals enrich our lives in countless ways. They don't deserve to be victims of ill-treatment or neglect. With these changes, we can ensure a wholesome life for them even at shelters until they find a permanent home. Please, sign this petition to protect these innocent lives from unnecessary suffering. Your signature can lead to a significant change in their lives and give them a chance they rightfully deserve.
