Implement Nichole's Law for USPS vehicle safety

The Issue

My mother was a dedicated United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier, passionately serving her community day in and day out. She lost her life in a tragic Long Life Vehicle (LLV) crash while on duty. This horrific event was made more devastating by the severe complications she suffered due to the lack of safety features in the postal vehicle she drove. If airbags had been present, they might have saved her life. I don't want any other family to go through this heartache.

Postal vehicles, especially the LLVs, have long been the backbone of mail delivery in the United States, but they are alarmingly outdated. These vehicles lack essential safety features, such as airbags, that are standard in most modern vehicles. The weights used in the back of these vehicles are not mounted securely, creating an additional safety hazard for the drivers.

It's time to address these critical safety issues to prevent further unnecessary tragedies. We urge the USPS to implement Nichole's Law, which would mandate the modernization of all mail trucks to include airbags and adhere to current safety standards.

Implementing these safety updates is not just about compliance; it's about valuing the lives of our postal workers who serve us tirelessly. In 2019 alone, more than 5,000 postal employees were injured due to vehicle accidents. It's imperative that USPS vehicles are equipped to protect their drivers effectively.

Let's make our mail carriers' safety a priority by demanding these essential changes. Join me in calling on the USPS to take immediate action to protect their employees by modernizing their fleet. Your support can help save lives. Please sign this petition to make Nichole's Law a reality.
