Implement Mandatory Use of Dash and Body Cams for All County Sheriffs

The Issue

In a heart-breaking incident involving the shooting of my beloved dog, an officer came onto my private property without a warrant. This personal tragedy highlights a larger problem. The absence of body and dash cameras not only reduces transparency and accountability, but also escalates situations rather than resolving them peacefully.

According to "The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights," the use of body cams potentially reduces the use of force incidents by approximately 60% and complaints against officers by nearly 90%. With such compelling statistics, it is puzzling as to why our local county sheriffs department operate without these crucial tools.

The provision of body and dash cams will enable objective evidence collection, ensure transparency, and protect the rights of both the civilians and law enforcement officers involved. The dreadful experience with my dog could have been avoided, or at least, rightfully addressed if such a measure was in place.

Please help in this endeavor to turn our sorrowful experience into a catalyst for positive change. Put your signature behind this petition and let us jointly advocate for the mandatory use of dash cams and body cams in all county sheriffs' vehicles and officers.
