Implement Mandatory Pet Registration, Breeder Licensing and Spaying and Neutering in MS!

Implement Mandatory Pet Registration, Breeder Licensing and Spaying and Neutering in MS!
The Issue
As an animal lover deeply concerned about the escalating problem of pet overpopulation, I believe it's time for us to take a stand. This issue is not just about animals; it's a human problem that requires human solutions. It's not fair for Good Samaritans to always bear the burden of irresponsible pet ownership, nor is it acceptable for city-run shelters to contribute to this crisis by adopting out unaltered animals.
In Mississippi alone, thousands of pets end up in shelters each year due to abandonment or loss (source: Humane Society). A significant portion of these are unneutered or unspayed, contributing further to the cycle of overpopulation. To combat this issue effectively, we need comprehensive legislation that holds all parties accountable.
We propose two primary measures:
1) Mandatory registration of all pets within a statewide database. This will help lost pets find their way back home and reduce the number shelter intakes.
2) Licensing requirements for breeders. This will ensure ethical breeding practices and discourage backyard breeding which often leads to unwanted litters.
Additionally, we insist that all municipal facilities and non-profit shelters fix their animals before adoption. By doing so, we can prevent future generations from suffering the same fate.
It’s time for people in Mississippi - pet owners, breeders, shelter workers - everyone involved in animal care - to step up and be part of the solution rather than exacerbating an already dire situation.
Please sign this petition if you agree with these proposed changes and want a better future for our beloved pets in Mississippi!
