As parents of two young children who attend schools in Florida, ours is an escalating concern echoed by many families in our local community. Our area has sadly been plagued with multiple threats, lock downs, and even active shootings involving innocent children. This frightening reality highlights the urgent necessity to fortify our children's safety at schools - their learning haven.

We propose for the Florida education system to adopt stricter school safety measures, namely, the mandatory installation of metal detectors and the establishment of one-way entry and exits in all schools. These measures have shown to deter potential threats, as evidenced in a study by the National Association of School Psychologists that found schools with security measures in place tend to experience fewer threat incidences.

Furthermore, strengthening our children's safety should go beyond reactionary measures. A proactive approach involving ongoing public discourse and policy development forms the foundation of an enduring safety structure.
