Implement Mandatory Licensing for Dogs and Cats in Louisiana

Implement Mandatory Licensing for Dogs and Cats in Louisiana
The Issue
As a resident of Louisiana, I am deeply concerned about the growing number of homeless dogs and cats in our state. Our shelters are constantly at capacity, and our euthanasia rates are alarmingly high. We need to take action now to address this issue.
In South Carolina, they have implemented a licensing system for pets that has significantly reduced the number of homeless animals and euthanasias. They charge a $5 licensing fee for dogs and cats who are spayed/neutered and microchipped, while those who are not cost $20 per license. Additionally, they offer free spay/neuter procedures as well as microchipping services to low-income families.
This approach has been successful in reducing the number of stray animals on their streets while also ensuring that all pets have proper identification should they ever get lost or separated from their owners.
We propose that Louisiana adopt similar measures by requiring all dog and cat owners to license their pets annually. This will not only help control the population but also provide necessary funding for animal care services within our state.
The time is now to make a change for the betterment of our beloved pets' lives. Please sign this petition urging lawmakers in Louisiana to implement mandatory licensing for dogs and cats.
