I was a first-time pet buyer, naive and excited to welcome a new member into my family. However, my joy quickly turned into despair when I discovered that the puppy I bought was suffering from Giardia. There was no proof of vet health checks, the pup wasn't KC registered, and I never got to see his parents. This is not just my story; it's the story of countless others who have been taken advantage of by backyard breeders.

Backyard breeding is an increasingly serious problem. These breeders often sell animals purely for profit without any regard for their health or well-being. Many puppies are sold in poor condition, leading to heartbreak for their new families and contributing to an escalating animal welfare crisis.

While microchipping is mandated by law, there are currently no legal requirements in place for breeders to provide proof of veterinary health checks before selling their animals - a loophole that unscrupulous breeders exploit with impunity.

It's high time we put an end to this cruelty. We demand that all breeders be required by law to have their animals vet-checked before selling them with documented proof provided both to buyers and local councils. This will ensure transparency in the breeding industry and protect innocent animals from falling into the hands of those who would exploit them purely for financial gain.

We cannot stand idly by while these practices continue unchecked. It's time we took action against backyard breeding and prioritized animal welfare over profit margins.
