I'm  a middle school child who, like many others, only gets a 15-minute break to do homework during school hours. This is inconsistent and unfair, considering that high school students have an hour break and elementary school students enjoy recess. Break times are crucial to students' emotional, social and cognitive development, and can greatly enhance their ability to focus, learn, and perform. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, students who experience regular recess exhibit more on-task behavior and are likely to be more physically active than their counterparts without recess. Middle school students should not be an exception to this necessity. No child's right to rest, play, and recharge should be compromised due to the course structure or educational level. It's time for equality and fairness in our school system's break schedules. We call upon the relevant authorities to implement a mandatory break time in all middle schools nationwide.
