I am a witness to the cruelty that manatees in our rivers are experiencing daily. These devastating incidents prompted me to initiate a campaign for a change. Our rivers house an enormous variety of wildlife, notably, a large population of manatees. These gentle, harmless creatures are falling victim to our boat propellers, resulting in severe injuries and, in worst cases, fatal outcomes. It has become evident that immediate action is needed. 

We propose the introduction of propeller protectors for all boats navigating rivers heavily populated by animals, particularly, our beloved manatees. Per Save the Manatee Club, there were 119 manatee deaths in Florida alone due to watercraft incidents in 2018. This alarming figure is not just a statistic; it is a sign that we must better safeguard our water-dwelling friends against avoidable harm.

Therefore, this battle is not just personal, it's a fight on behalf of all who value our diverse and valuable marine ecosystem. Together, we must petition local, state, and national lawmakers to make it mandatory for boats in rivers like ours to be equipped with propeller protectors. These essential devices can minimize the risk and harm to aquatic animals significantly, protecting them from the unnecessary pain and death.
