Crossing guards form a pillar of security for our children, guiding them safely across the streets. Nevertheless, over the past year, I've observed a worrying number of instances where drivers have neglected the clear instructions of these guards, risking the lives of those who dwell in our community: not only children, but all pedestrians.

Safe passage for all pedestrians, particularly young ones, must be a priority, and it's time we ensure this through additional measures. We are appealing for the introduction of a local ordinance that will penalize drivers failing to respect the directions of crossing guards to hopefully deter future behavior.

A study from the National Association of School Resource Officers calls on more rigorous enforcement around school zones, highlighting how beneficial this can be in enhancing pedestrian safety. This petition isn't solely about penalties or punishment; it's about creating a safer environment for our children, made possible through better driving behavior and a reinforced respect for our crossing guards.
