Implement Life Bans and Prison Sentences for Animal Cruelty
Implement Life Bans and Prison Sentences for Animal Cruelty
The Issue
This petition is deeply personal to me, as I recently read about the case of Robert Mills and his son Jack Mills. The cruelty they inflicted upon their animals was heart-wrenching, yet their punishment was merely a ban from keeping animals for 5 years, a fine, and 150 hours of unpaid work. Is that really all the justice our animals get?
Animal cruelty is not just an isolated incident in Canterbury; it's a widespread issue across the UK. According to RSPCA statistics from 2019, there were over 130k complaints of animal abuse in England alone (source: RSPCA). Yet many offenders receive minimal sentences or fines.
We need stronger laws to protect our innocent creatures. We are calling on lawmakers to implement life bans on owning pets for those found guilty of animal cruelty and appropriate prison sentences that reflect the severity of these crimes.
The current punishments do not serve as enough deterrence nor do they provide justice for these voiceless victims. We must send a clear message that such abhorrent behaviour will not be tolerated in our society.
Please sign this petition if you believe in stronger penalties for animal cruelty offences - let's give our animals the protection they deserve!
