I've always held a deep love for animals. From my earliest memories, they've been an integral part of my life. This passion was further fueled by a personal tragedy - the loss of my grandfather in an unfortunate hunting incident. He was attacked by an animal he had shot first, and I witnessed this heartbreaking event unfold.

We humans often fear animals, perceiving them as threats to our safety and well-being. However, the harsh reality is that we are more dangerous to them than they are to us. Many species are on the brink of extinction due to human activities, which include unnecessary killing for reasons other than food or self-defense.

It's time we take responsibility for our actions and make amends before it's too late. We need legislation that makes it illegal to kill animals unless it's for food or in genuine self-defense situations.

According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF), 60% of all wildlife populations have declined since 1970 due primarily to human activity such as habitat destruction and overhunting (WWF Living Planet Report 2020). If we continue at this rate without any intervention or change in laws, many more species will be pushed towards extinction.

We cherish our pets and understand their value in our lives; let's extend this empathy towards all creatures big and small who share this planet with us. Let us not forget that every life has intrinsic value beyond its utility to humans.
