The Issue

Jamie was my eldest brother, He meant everything to us. But tragically, he was a vulnerable adult who suffered unimaginable torture and ultimately lost his life in a situation that could have been prevented.

He has been dead for 998 days, and each day serves as a painful reminder of his absence. There were four crucial opportunities to save Jamie. Despite his pleas for help, despite doing everything we are taught to do when in peril, these cries died with him. The system failed Jamie, a failure that echoes in the lives of all vulnerable adults who continue to find themselves in similar situations without protection.

Jamie's death followed the loss of our mother, and while I try simply to grieve both losses, I found myself pleading, fighting  for justice in his memory. Fighting to get his voice back, to give him peace. Today, I'm advocating for the implementation of Jamie's Law, a legislative measure designed to ensure that no one else suffers the same fate as my brother.
Jamie's Law is built on actionable recommendations that focus on improving response measures, enhancing training for law enforcement and social services professionals, and establishing clear protocols to protect those most at risk.

Statistics reveal that vulnerable adults, like Jamie, are at an increased risk of abuse and neglect—events that can and should be prevented. U.K. government records indicate that, in just one year, thousands of adults deemed at-risk were reported to authorities, yet not all of these cases were effectively addressed. This is a systemic issue that demands change.

The introduction of Jamie's Law will make four fundamental changes: 1) implementing mandatory training for professionals to recognize and act on signs of distress. 2) Establishing a dedicated task force to oversee the implementation of protective measures. 3) Providing increased resources for frontline workers to respond swiftly. 4) Ensuring accountability through periodic audits of case handling processes.

By signing this petition, you will help us advocate for a safer and more responsive system that will protect vulnerable adults. Join us to ensure that no family should ever have to endure what we have. Help us turn our grief into action and prevent any more unnecessary tragedies. Please sign and share this petition to make Jamie's Law a reality.
