Implement Immediate Solutions for Homelessness in Woodland, CA
The Issue
Living in Woodland, CA, I have personally witnessed the drastic increase in the unhoused population affecting our community. I've seen individuals using drugs openly on Matmor and Main Street. I've personally been harassed by those without homes outside local stores. Many residents, like myself, have watched as the unhoused defecate on our sidewalks or steal from our local businesses and residents. It's getting completely out of hand.
Woodland is a beautiful city, cherished for its charm and community spirit, yet it is suffering under the strain of the increasing homeless crisis. The situation has escalated to a point where immediate action is necessary to restore our city's safety and cleanliness. Residents are concerned about the future of their neighborhoods, and it's time for our officials to act decisively.
A potential solution has already been established in Davis, a neighboring city, where local officials voted on an ordinance that permits more rapid enforcement. This ordinance bans camping on both public and private property, resulting in a misdemeanor for any offense. Adopting a similar strategy in Woodland could help curb the current crisis, balance compassionate intervention with the rights of residents, and restore order and safety.
By adopting the approach used in Davis, we will not only deter unlawful activities but will also compel local officials to collaborate and find long-term, humane solutions for the unhoused, such as providing increased access to shelters and support services for those in need.
Please join me in sending a message to our local officials demanding change and the implementation of strategies that have proven effective in similar communities. Woodland deserves to return to a place where everyone feels safe and respected. Sign this petition to urge our officials to take immediate action to address the homelessness issue in Woodland, CA.
