On November 2, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Pelican Narrows RCMP received a report of an adult injured by dogs on McKay Street in Pelican Narrows. Pelican Narrows RCMP officers responded immediately and located the injured adult on McKay Street. RCMP officers provided immediate medical assistance to the injured adult and transported them in their RCMP vehicle to the health clinic, where their injuries were described as life-threatening. Our thoughts are with them and their family as they continue to receive medical treatment. Saskatchewan RCMP will not be providing an update on their condition, nor providing any further identifying details. After leaving the clinic, police officers returned to the scene to further investigate the incident. They located three dogs nearby that investigation determined were involved in this incident. In the interest of public safety, police officers put down the three dogs. Pelican Narrows RCMP continue to investigate this incident. This is the second dog-related injury recently reported to Pelican Narrows RCMP. The previous incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on October 31, 2026. Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to the report of an adult at the medical clinic who had been injured by a dog. Officers investigated and located the dog determined to be involved in the October 31 incident. The owners of the dog ultimately put this dog down following discussion with police.
While the immediate response of the police was commendable, the subsequent decision to shoot three dogs in retaliation and to kill another after a previous incident has sparked outrage in our community. This approach is neither effective nor sustainable. Residents of Pelican Narrows deserve better, kinder, and preventative solutions to address the issue of stray and aggressive dogs in our area.
The shooting of dogs not only creates fear but does little to address the root cause of the problem. Instead of resorting to lethal measures, we urge the local authorities to consider and implement more humane and effective dog control measures. Options such as community-based spaying and neutering programs, education initiatives on responsible pet ownership, and the establishment of a local animal shelter can all contribute to a safer and more animal-friendly community.
Globally, communities that have adopted these measures have seen significant reductions in dog-related incidents and improved public safety. By investing in proactive measures, not only can we prevent injuries but also foster a compassionate relationship between humans and animals.
We call upon the officials of Pelican Narrows and the Saskatchewan government to take immediate action. Let's show that we care about both our residents and our animal companions. Implement humane dog control initiatives now to prevent further tragedies and build a community where humans and animals coexist peacefully.
Please sign this petition to urge our elected representatives to create lasting change for the betterment of our community and its animals.
