I adopted a rescued Boston Terrier who had suffered horrific neglect at the hands of his previous owner. At only two years old, he lost his sight entirely due to the callousness and cruelty of a human being who was supposed to care for him. Reports from the ASPCA reveal that thousands of animals are victims of cruelty every year, yet few cases are ever brought to court, and even fewer result in meaningful punishment for the perpetrators. The justice system needs to reflect the severity of these crimes and send a clear message that animal cruelty is intolerable in our society.
