Implement Half-Days on Fridays in MCPS

Implement Half-Days on Fridays in MCPS
The Issue
Many of us understand the struggle of a long week. As a student within the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) district, I find myself exhausted and struggling with migraines by the time Friday rolls around. I am confident I am not alone in this struggle, as the increase in stress and health issues among students nationwide is well-documented.
Recent studies highlight the adverse impact of long school weeks on the physical and mental well-being of students, with a correlation found between shorter school weeks and improved student health (Nebraska Department of Education, American Psychological Association). Therefore, implementing half-days on Fridays within the MCPS district could help to combat these issues.
We believe that right to a high-quality education does not need to come at a cost to our health. Transitioning to half-days on Fridays could provide a necessary respite, improving student well-being without significantly impacting educational outcomes. This balance between our academic pursuits and wellbeing is essential.
We urge MCPS district to consider implementing half-days on Fridays for the health and well-being of the student community. Let's advocate for a healthier learning environment. Please show your support by signing and sharing this petition.
