I speak as a member of the LGBT community, witnessing firsthand the pain and discomfort of individuals forced into clothing that does not align with their identity. Imagine the distress of a young person daily struggling with their identity, compounded by the expectation to conform not only behaviorally but in their physical representation. It is time for a change. It is time for school uniforms in the Philippines to reflect and respect all gender identities.

Presently, the Philippines ranks 12th in the list of Asian countries in terms of LGBT-friendliness, based on the extensive survey, the 'ILGA-Ripple Asia Survey' (2019). We should strive for progress and lead in acceptance and identity affirmation by implementing gender-neutral uniforms in our schools. Young people should be comfortable in their learning environment, and for many, the uniform they wear is part of this comfort.

Through this petition, we request the Department of Education in the Philippines to consider the importance of gender-neutral uniforms.
