I am a student at Oak Hammock Middle School in Florida, and I've noticed a stark difference between my current school and my previous one. My old school had a lot of fun activities that balanced the academic workload, but at Oak Hammock, it's all work and no play. I heard from people that even the staff monitors classes to ensure we aren't having fun.

This lack of recreational activities is not only dull but also detrimental to our overall development. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, playtime is crucial for children's social-emotional learning and cognitive development (AAP News & Journals). Moreover, research from Stanford University suggests that students who take part in extracurricular activities have better academic performance (Stanford News).

Therefore, we must advocate for a change in this approach. We need to strike a balance between academics and recreation at Oak Hammock Middle School. It's time we bring back fun into our classrooms without compromising on education quality.
