Implement Friendly Efficient Communication Training in Los Angeles Schools

Implement Friendly Efficient Communication Training in Los Angeles Schools
The Issue
I, like many, have carried the weight of historical trauma, passed on to me from my father's traumatic experiences rooted in racism, familial abuse, & PTSD from Vietnam War. These experiences have created challenges in my life, particularly in forming meaningful relationships and confronting various life obstacles. I believe that addressing this issue on a broader scale can initiate a change that will benefit many in the long term.
In Los Angeles alone, thousands of students carry with them unseen emotional scars, passed down through generations. They're in great need of compassionate, patient, and understanding educators. That's why we are petitioning for all school leaders, teachers, and staff within Los Angeles to receive training in Friendly Efficient Communication.
Implementing this training not only holds the possibility for aiding students and their families, but it also creates an environment that can navigate ancestral trauma and contribute to generational wellness. By taking the time to learn to hold space for self and others, we're fostering a healthier, more understanding community.
Given that one in four students reports feeling terrified of bullying incidents (Source: National Center for Educational Statistics), a shift to friendly efficient communication can provide an additional safeguarding layer for vulnerable students.

My father, a Vietnam Army veteran with PTSD, and my mother, an educator who grew up with an abusive alcoholic father, instilled in me the understanding of deep-rooted trauma. My life was saved when I learned mindful breathing and how to use breath and friendly communication combined with movement and play. Through my studies in nonviolent communication, I realized there are tools to connect with oneself and relate to others that allow one to be heard and seen.
This realization led me to create a tool that I could teach called the FriendSHYP Framework, which has become the mission of my life to share. The FriendSHYP Framework consists of seven main lessons, each represented by a letter in the word FRIENDS:
- **F** is for Find self-love.
- **R** is for Respect the truth.
- **I** is for Identify triggers.
- **E** is for Embrace greatness.
- **N** is for Never give up.
- **D** is for Deploy & celebrate.
- **S** is for Serve & help your purpose.
Each lesson teaches the basics of holding space to connect with oneself and others, including breathwork, movement, and games to help navigate personal and relationship challenges.
**Call to Action:**
