Implement Four-Day School Weeks in Virginia Schools

Implement Four-Day School Weeks in Virginia Schools
The Issue
I am a middle school student in Virginia, striving for good grades and to make my parents proud. However, the five-day school week is proving to be overwhelming. I believe that a four-day week would be more manageable not only for me but also for thousands of other students who are equally exhausted.
Our current education system requires us to attend school five days a week, which can lead to burnout and stress among students. Studies have shown that shorter weeks can result in improved mental health and increased productivity among students (American Psychological Association). In fact, several states like Colorado and Oregon have already successfully implemented four-day school weeks with positive results (National Education Policy Center).
Reducing the number of days we spend at school each week will not compromise our learning; instead, it could enhance it by giving us more time to rest and process what we've learned. It's time for Virginia schools to consider this change seriously.
We urge the Virginia Department of Education to recognize our struggle and reconsider the current five-day schooling system. Let's prioritize student well-being over outdated traditions. Please sign this petition if you support a four-day school week in Virginia schools.
