Implement Financial Reforms for Members of Parliament

Implement Financial Reforms for Members of Parliament
The Issue
As a concerned citizen, I am deeply troubled by the current financial privileges enjoyed by our Members of Parliament (MPs). This issue is not only personal to me but affects us all, especially when considering the future of ours and our children. MPs are currently able to claim expenses, own second houses, receive bonuses and set their own pay - a luxury not afforded to the average citizen.
In 2018/19 alone, MPs claimed over £115 million in expenses on top of their salaries (source: Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority). This is an alarming figure that could be redirected towards public services or initiatives that benefit the wider population.
Moreover, there's an inherent conflict in MPs setting their own pay. The median salary for full-time employees in the UK was £30,353 in 2020 (source: Office for National Statistics), while MPs earn a basic salary of £81,932 (source: UK Parliament website), nearly three times more than average workers.
This petition calls for urgent reforms including ceasing expense claims for expenses except travel; prohibiting ownership of second homes at taxpayers' expense; eliminating bonuses; and setting MP salaries at a level commensurate with national averages or minimum wage.
We believe these changes will promote transparency and fairness while ensuring that those elected to serve us are truly committed to public service rather than personal gain. Please sign this petition if you agree it's time for change.
Whilst the public have been struggling through the cost of living crisis, making cuts and having public services pulled from us; politicians have lost nothing. Unelected and inefficient!
It is time our members of Parliament were in their roles because they are passionate about the public, therefore we believe that their pay should reflect that of an average citizen. Instead of our public services being taken away, councils put into debt, schools not being able to provide and the NHS on its knees, MPs bonuses as well as expenses and second homes should be taken away. The average person, who these people represent are living frugally to line our government and their comrades pockets.
Why are our we suffering as a whole, whilst this unelected government who do not act in our best interests are not held accountable? Why are we living to work and then die? The rich get richer whilst the poor get poorer, no more!
