I plea out of personal agony and a shared grief with many parents across the nation. Each year, between 4000-5000 children resort to suicide as a desperate escape from the relentless bullying they endure in schools. The school teachers, principals, and members of the school boards remain disconcertingly passive. This urgent issue desperately needs resolution through the enactment of severe federal laws.

The absence of significant legislation punishing bullies in schools is alarming. We need to push our policymakers, lawmakers and education authorities to set concrete, nation-wide laws against bullying in place. A nationwide legal framework would ensure uniformity of rules, thus making their implementation more effective in curbing this menace that keeps haunting our children and robbing them of their joyful childhood.

According to the CDC, students who experience bullying are at increased risk for poor school adjustment, sleep difficulties, anxiety, and depression. By instituting strict anti-bullying laws, we can significantly reduce these adverse effects, potentially saving thousands of young lives annually.

It is time the United States, a nation recognized for its stance on human rights and child welfare, sets an example by implementing extensive and strict legislation against bullying in schools. Let our children learn in a safe and nurturing environment, free from the terror of bullies.
