I am a fitness trainer and a passionate gym member. Over the years, I've faced significant financial losses due to unfair salary practices and a lack of industry standards in gyms across India. As a member of this community, I’ve also witnessed the struggle of fellow trainers who are undervalued and underpaid, despite their dedication to helping others achieve their fitness goals.
In 2020, Indian labor laws were updated to include new salary standards for trainers, ensuring that they receive fair compensation for their work. Unfortunately, this law has not been implemented effectively across the country, leaving many trainers in a precarious financial situation. This oversight leaves us, the trainers, disheartened and unable to fully dedicate ourselves to our passion for health and fitness.
Gyms are thriving businesses, yet many continue to bypass the legal obligations meant to protect their employees. According to a 2022 study by the Indian Fitness Association, nearly 70% of gyms in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore do not comply with the legal salary standards for trainers. This failure undermines the entire fitness community, affecting not only trainers but also the quality of services provided to gym members.
Trainers work tirelessly to motivate, educate, and support everyone in their fitness journey. We deserve security, recognition, and fair compensation reflective of our hard work. We call upon gym owners and management teams across India to honor the legal commitments and implement the new salary structures as prescribed by Indian law.
