It has been observed that the current Sealing Records system in New York falls short of offering true second chances to those with criminal histories.

While it might suggest a mitigation, it often covers up court and arrest errors, rather than granting realistic fresh starts. 

There is a prevalent sentiment that Expungement laws, as opposed to the Clean Slate Act, offer a more tangible path towards rehabilitation and Pardons while being limited still can be useful if used correctly.

Expungement and Local Pardon laws provide an actual clean slate, justifying the certainty of deserving a second chance and fixing corruption and or mistakes on behalf of the government locally.

By allowing individuals to fully reintegrate into society and remove the stain of a past mistake, these laws could dramatically improve lives, and offer hope so old criminals don't end up being thrown back into a criminal lifestyle.

It's time for New York to make a shift towards Expungement and Local Pardon laws as a more fitting means of delivering justice and enabling reformation.
