It is a distressing reality that when an animal kills a human, the animal is often killed in response. However, when a human kills an animal, the punishment they receive is significantly less severe. This disparity in justice highlights the need for change in our legal system to ensure equal treatment and protection of all lives, no matter what species. In 2019 alone, there were approximately 1,000 cases of animal cruelty reported in the United States (source: American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Despite this alarming number, many perpetrators face minimal consequences due to lenient laws and regulations surrounding animal cruelty.

We are calling on lawmakers to implement legislation that would make killing an animal punishable by the same sentence as if someone were to kill another human being. This would not only serve as a strong deterrent but also reflect our society's recognition of animals' rights and their intrinsic value.
