The Issue

Our peaceful residential area, Beechwood, has become a zone of concern and danger, and immediate action is needed. Recently, our community was shaken by the tragic loss of our beloved pet, Blue—our cat who was struck by a driver right here, where he should have been safe. His death is not an isolated incident; over time, we've mourned the loss of four cats in total, victims of reckless driving. More alarmingly, our children have faced frightening near misses, and it feels like only a matter of time before a child suffers severe harm, or worse.

The local businesses and football clubs, who were established against the wishes of our residents, have not contributed to our community’s well-being. Instead, they have increased the risk to our loved ones. Regularly, we witness cars being driven without regard to the safety of our streets, and drivers showing blatant disregard for the Highway Code. Our community’s safety and peace have been compromised for too long.

We are calling on local authorities and these businesses to step up immediately and put in place emergency safety measures to prevent further tragedy. Concrete actions need to include: clearly marked pedestrian crossings, installation of speed bumps to deter speeding, and stricter enforcement of the Highway Code around these businesses and sports facilities. These changes can prevent more heartbreak and ensure our area remains a safe environment for everyone, especially our children and pets.

Every resident shares this concern, having opposed the establishment of businesses and pitches that have brought more harm than benefits. We urge the local council to listen to the voices of their constituents and take urgent action before it’s too late. Please join us in our fight for safety and sign this petition to demand change and protection for our community.
