Duplin's Law seeks to address a significant and growing concern regarding the overpopulation of pets and associated adverse effects. This law would require all pet owners to spay or neuter their animals, thus helping to control the number of homeless animals. According to the Humane Society of the United States, an estimated 6-8 million homeless animals enter shelters every year. This unfortunate situation puts immense pressure on shelters and leads to millions of healthy, adoptable animals being euthanized. Spaying and neutering not only assist in decreasing the number of unwanted animals but also have health benefits for the pets themselves, reducing risks of certain types of cancer and infections. To safeguard the welfare of our beloved pets and reduce the pressure on shelters, we urge legislative bodies to adopt and enforce Duplin's Law.
