Implement Duck Crossing Signs in Port Charlotte, Florida

Implement Duck Crossing Signs in Port Charlotte, Florida
The Issue
This cause is personally very poignant for me. The streets of Port Charlotte, Florida, where I reside, have seen an alarming number of fatalities of our beloved ducks. Driving speeds have been so high that drivers cannot react in time when a mother duck and her ducklings decide to bravely cross the street - this is heartbreaking.
Adding 'Duck Crossing' signs on Harbor and throughout residential streets can serve as a gentle reminder for drivers to slow down and be more cautious. The presence of these signs can make drivers more attentive, potentially reducing the risk of duck fatalities and road accidents. They'll be reminded that they share their neighborhood with these adorable creatures and should respect their space.
With an estimated population of over 50,000 residents, the responsibility is on us to ensure the safety of our fellow inhabitants. Unfortunately, ducks, unable to fathom the hazards of traffic, often become road casualties. While we don't have exact figures of duck fatalities in Port Charlotte, national statistics reveal that millions of birds are killed annually due to traffic.
Let's do our part in keeping our feathered friends safe. By implementing these signs, we're not just protecting ducks, we're enhancing awareness, encouraging responsible driving, and promoting a safe space for all creatures. Everybody wins.
Please, help us protect the ducks in our community by signing this petition today. The safety of our adorable ducks depends on us.
