Implement Domestic Violence Perpetrators Registry Nationwide
The Issue
I am a survivor of prolonged domestic abuse, a harsh reality that has not only traumatized me, but has also left deep scars on my children. One of them, a brave 3-year-old boy, is now diagnosed with PTSD for having intervened to stand between me and my abuser, an act that led him to get hurt himself. Both of my children are legally recognized as domestic violence victims, while the perpetrator of this violence remains unlisted. We need to end women and children violence and the victims being on a register while the perpetrators are allowed to walk free.
This grim reality is not unique to us; it's a tale told by countless victims across our nation. A report by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence revealed that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime. Yet, there isn't a comprehensive database to track the offenders. This gap in our justice system poses a grave risk to potential future victims.
This is an urgent call to authorities to implement a nationwide Domestic Violence Perpetrators Registry. The registry would not only publicly record the perpetrator's identity but also act as deterrence to potential abusers, making our society safer from domestic violence. By signing this petition, you're standing with countless families who've been torn apart by domestic violence and are demanding preventative actions to protect potential victims nationwide.
