Florida is a place highly dependent on cars for commuting which makes parking a significant aspect of day-to-day life. However, not all citizens and tourists have access to credit or debit cards, especially those in the low-income category and elderly citizens who are used to traditional methods of payment. Therefore, mandating that all parking facilities in Florida accept cash and/or coins can make this essential service more accessible to everyone. A study showed that 14 million adults in the US lacked a bank account in 2017 (Report by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation). Therefore, it is crucial that parking facilities cater to all potential users. It should also be considered our right to choose to use cash instead of bank or credit card company cards. We must urge our government to enact regulations to mandate the acceptance of cash and coins in all Florida parking spots.
