As parents, our primary concern is always the safety of our children. It's our responsibility to ensure that when they're away from home, they're in an environment that takes their security just as seriously as we do. As a member of the community, I strongly believe that Pearl River School district schools should have armed security guards. Across the country, numerous schools have seen increased safety measures such as the introduction of security guards contribute to the overall reduction of school violence. According to the National Association of School Resource Officers, when schools have security personnel, the likelihood of maintaining peace and preventing potentially harmful situations increases significantly (NAHSRO, 2020). However, it's imperative that these security guards are not only equipped but also trained to handle emergency situations. Their role will essentially give parents, students and faculty a sense of security and prevent any incidents of school violence, which unfortunately is becoming more frequent in today's society. Our children's safety is at stake, and no measure is too strong when it comes to protecting them.
