As a student passionate about the medical field, I have found that Anatomy & Physiology is not only a requirement for Premed Majors but also an intriguing subject for many. The College Board and Advanced Placement have recently announced they will be piloting AP Anatomy & Physiology in the upcoming school year. This is an exciting opportunity that should be made available to students at Viera High School.

Many of us at VHS have expressed interest in this course, recognizing its potential to prepare us for future studies and careers in medicine. Offering AP Anatomy & Physiology would demonstrate our school's commitment to providing rigorous academic opportunities and preparing students for success beyond high school.

AP Anatomy & physiology would give students a huge boost in college and allow them to be exposed to more advanced topics than the current concepts learned in normal and honors A&P. A 3+ on the AP A&P exam would equal to 1 Anatomy & Physiology Credit in college.

The School has simply said the courses availability is unknown and this is affecting decisions regarding course selection. While we do understand time is necessary to plan for this course, this petition is simply pushing for the implementation of the course.

According to data from the National Center for Education Statistics, schools offering a variety of AP courses see higher college enrollment rates (NCES, 2019). By adding this course, we can enhance our academic profile while meeting student demand.

We urge the administration of Viera High School to consider offering AP Anatomy & Physiology during the 2024-2025 school year. Please sign this petition if you support expanding educational opportunities at VHS.
