In Canada, thousands of animals are abandoned, abused, or neglected every year. I’m the USA, it is far more. Despite this alarming situation, there is currently no  federal law that addresses animal rescue operations. This lack of regulation leaves these vulnerable creatures unprotected and subject to further harm. We believe it's time for a change.

The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies reports that over 82,000 cats and 35,000 dogs were taken into shelters in 2017 alone (CFHS). These figures do not even account for the countless other species that are also in need of rescue and protection.

We propose the implementation of an Animal Rescue Law at the federal level. This legislation would establish standards for animal rescue operations across the country and in the US and ensure that all rescued animals receive appropriate care and proper vetting prior to fostering and adoption. It would also provide legal recourse against those who abandon or mistreat their pets, and rescues  that do not follow  legal transport law, or fully vet animals before adoption.
