Implement Andrew’s Law for Safer Roads

Implement Andrew’s Law for Safer Roads
The Issue
Every year, countless families are torn apart by the devastating impacts of dangerous driving. Tragically, our dear friend Andrew Cristillo became one of these victims, losing his life to a reckless driver who should have been stopped long before Andrew's life was unjustly taken.
On August 3rd, 2025, Andrew was returning home from his parents house with his wife and their three young children when a dangerous driver collided with their vehicle while he was fast asleep in the passenger seat. In an instant, Andrew’s life was taken, leaving his wife—who is currently bravely battling stage 4 breast cancer—a widow, his children without a father, and an entire community grieving a man known for his kindness, loyalty, and love for family. This was not an unavoidable accident; it was the direct result of a system that repeatedly allows dangerous drivers another chance.
The grim reality is that current laws are not stringent enough to deter offenders. These drivers often escape significant penalties, remaining a serious threat to public safety. It is imperative that we implement Andrew's Law to ensure that dangerous drivers face absolute and unambiguous consequences for their actions.
Andrew’s Law serves five essential purposes:
- Immediate Suspensions: Upon charge for serious offences (dangerous driving, impaired driving, stunt driving). Remains until trial concludes unless acquitted.
- Lifetime Driving Bans: Permanent revocation after multiple convictions for serious offences: dangerous driving causing death or injury, impaired driving causing death or injury, stunt driving creating serious risk.
- Driving While Disqualified/Unlicensed: Mandatory jail for unlicensed/disqualified driving, with 30–90 days minimum jail on first conviction and escalating penalties including vehicle forfeiture and lifetime bans for repeat offences.
- Mandatory Driver Education: All new drivers and newcomers must complete training on hazard perception, impaired/distracted driving prevention, and victim-impact awareness.
- Road Safety in Schools: Boards must deliver road safety education from Grades 1–12, integrated into the Health and Physical Education curriculum
Loopholes and leniencies must be closed to protect innocent lives. By introducing non-negotiable terms for offenders, we uphold the value of life and the safety of the public. This approach not only ensures justice for victims like Andrew but also serves a strong deterrent to those who may endanger others through disregard for traffic laws.
The statistics are alarming. Dangerous driving offenders often accumulate multiple infractions, indicating a habitual lack of responsibility and respect for road safety. Unfortunately, until the law imposes adequately severe penalties, they will continue to endanger lives with little consequence. We cannot wait for another tragedy to strike. We must act now.
We urge legislators to prioritize the wellbeing and safety of the public over leniency and offences. By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for Andrew’s Law and standing up for a future where no family has to suffer the pain of losing a loved one to preventable road carnage. Let's ensure our roads are safe for everyone. Please sign this petition and help us bring about this crucial change.
