Stop Candy Kitten Sweets Sexualisation of Children, advertising age-inappropriate Content!

The Issue

Candy Kitten Sweets are selling in partnership with the Netflix (Sex Education Series) obvious topics on sex. Some sweets are in the form of condoms and written on the packet endorsing sexual idioms are words like “sweets & sex go hand in hand”! Presenting mature adult material to Children and exposing them before their time is perilous to their emotions, innocent minds & development.

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I am deeply concerned about the sexualisation of minors and children in Media, Trade and Society. This issue is personal to me because I have experienced firsthand the long-term damage this can inflict, especially on women, and its detrimental impact on Our Public Health & wider Society.

According to the UK CSA centre research, “prior experience of abuse and neglect can also heighten the risk of a child or young person engaging in harmful sexual behaviour. This includes behaviour that can increase the risk of victimisation of others or behaviour which has a negative impact on the child themselves”. The American Psychological Association also reports that early exposure to sexual content can lead to a variety of negative outcomes for children including increased rates of sexual harassment among peers. It also contributes significantly towards shaping unhealthy attitudes about sex and relationships (American Psychological Association).

We must ensure that our children are protected from inappropriate sexual content. We need stricter regulations regarding age-appropriate content, particularly in Commercial & Media Outlets accessible by minors. In doing so, we can help create a safer environment for our children where they are allowed to grow at their own pace without being prematurely subjected, lured or enticed to adult themes.

Please join me in urging lawmakers and regulators to take this issue seriously. Together we can make a difference in protecting our most vulnerable population - Our Children. Sign and further share this petition today!

Thank You
