Too often students have to wait long times to turn onto, or cross, East 2nd South from South 1st East (Intersection at Windsor Manor) due to only two traffic flow directions having a stop sign. This 2-way stop also creates a hazardous site for pedestrians and merging vehicles. One side is particularly hazardous because of the hill, creating a blind spot for motorists and increasing the danger for pedestrians. With the constant risk of a vehicular accident, and mass inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians, it's high time we took action to prevent an incident from occurring.

National studies show that the correct stop sign placement reduces vehicular speed and accidents by almost 72% (source – National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). This drastic reduction can mean the difference between life and death for our family, friends, and the college students who traverse this intersection daily.

Therefore, I implore our local government to consider the placement of additional stop signs at East 2nd South and South 1st East. This simple action would go a long way to protect and preserve the safety of our community.

I additionally call upon our local government to place additional signage at the intersection of South 2nd West and West 5th South (intersection at The Lodge Apartments). This intersection is dangerous for pedestrians as numerous vehicles, lack of lighting, and several buildings prevent motorists from seeing a crossing pedestrian or merging vehicle until it is too late.

We, the undersigned individuals, do call upon our government to make these two intersections -- South 2nd West and West 5th South, and East 2nd South and South 1st East -- into four-way stops in order to reduce motor vehicle accidents and increase pedestrian safety.
