I am a resident of Danbury, CT, and over the past year, our family members have had two work vans totaled while parked on Merrimac Street. One of their personal cars also suffered the same fate due to reckless driving. This is not an isolated issue. The neighborhood has witnessed a handful of accidents that have resulted in total vehicle losses.

The community believes that the root cause of these incidents is excessive speed and lack of driver awareness at the intersection of Merrimac Street and Peace Street. The solution we propose is simple, yet effective - installing two additional stop signs at this intersection. The addition of these stop signs will serve as a reminder for drivers to slow down, pay attention to their surroundings, and respect residential areas' safety norms. According to research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), stop signs can reduce speed by 45-60% in urban areas.

We urge the City of Danbury to take immediate action on this matter. By doing so, they can protect vehicles from unnecessary damage and more importantly, safeguard the community members from potential harm caused by speeding vehicles.
