Implement a Zebra Crossing on Dulwich Common for Pedestrian Safety

The Issue

I have personally witnessed the grave danger that exists on Dulwich Common, next to the Lordship Lane Estate. This perilous stretch of road continues to pose a significant threat to pedestrians due to a lack of safe crossing measures. Tragically, there have been fatalities here, one occurring just outside my doorstep.

The seemingly unending flow of traffic on this busy stretch, combined with the absence of a designated crossing, results in an extremely precarious situation for pedestrians every day. The pedestrian island, which should ostensibly provide a safe space for those attempting to cross, has been struck by cars multiple times, making it a potentially lethal waiting spot as well.

The need for immediate action is dire. Statistics from the Department of Transport show that the risk of pedestrian fatalities is 4.4 times higher in the absence of a pedestrian crossing (Road Casualties Great Britain 2018, Department of Transport). Thus, erecting a Zebra Crossing here would greatly improve pedestrian safety and could mean the difference between life and death.

The implementation of a Zebra Crossing on Dulwich Common is not just a necessary safety measure, but it is an indispensable right of the pedestrians, our right, to be able to journey safely. Please sign this petition, insist on the immediate creation of a Zebra Crossing on Dulwich Common, and let's ensure the safety of all pedestrians in our community.
