In October 2021, I experienced a life-altering tragedy at the intersection of Katherine Station Road and Dixie Hwy in West Point, KY. Traveling southbound on Dixie, coming home from Louisville, I rear-ended a vehicle stopped in the fast lane turning into the racetrack. The accident resulted in the devastating loss of my unborn twins and left me with permanent physical disabilities.i shuddered my calcaneus (heel bone)  I had a compound fracture in my right ankle. I severed a main artery in my foot. The bone sticking out of my ankle impaled my left leg resulting in my legs being stuck together in the car. I broke all my ribs. Shaddered my  pelvis and hip bone. I snapped my femur and had to get a steel rod put in and I had a two inch hole in my ankle which is why I had to have a skin flap done. That’s where they cut off part of my calf and slap it over on my ankle. And my foot is fixed at a 90 degree angle due to me breaking my whole foot. So years later after my accident I’m unable to walk on uneven ground. I have to wear crocs all winter due to the distorted foot it won’t fit into a regular shoe. 
But this intersection didn’t just affect my life. Exactly two months before my accident on July 9,2021  a man lost his life at this intersection. Being hit from the rear and pushed into on coming traffic. 
due to no turning lanes he can move his vehicle from danger  or wall being there.

This intersection has proven to be dangerous for many drivers like me who are unaware of cars stopping abruptly to turn. It lacks proper traffic management infrastructure such as turning lanes or medians that could prevent such accidents from happening.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), intersections without adequate traffic control measures account for up to 40% of all crashes. This statistic is not just a number; it represents real people whose lives are irrevocably changed by these accidents - people like myself.

We need immediate action from our local authorities to ensure safety for all road users at this intersection. By implementing either a turning lane or median at this location, we can significantly reduce the risk of similar tragedies occurring in future.
