I am initiating this petition from a personal place. Not long ago, my mother's car was totaled while parked at the intersection of E Weber and N Santa Fe. More alarming was the fact that this car, had it not been my mom's parked car, would have come crashing into my bedroom window. This is a daily fear for me and the other residents in the proximity.

The intersection of E Weber and N Santa Fe has long been a dark spot, without a street light to guide pedestrians and motorists alike. In my own experience, and from what I have witnessed, a car accident happens here every month or so, sparking fear in the hearts of my neighbors and fellow pedestrians. This repeated occurrence is an indication that the intersection is not safe, especially for people who need to cross the street. I have called the city yet still no help. This is negligence

From data gathered from the Federal Highway Administration, poorly lit intersections contribute to approximately 21.5% of fatalities in urban areas every year (FHWA, 2020). Without a street light at this intersection, we are risking our lives and the lives of those visiting our neighborhood.

An addition of a street light can prevent potential accidents, making the road safer for everyone; pedestrians, bikers, drivers alike. Therefore, I urge our city councils of Compton and Lynwood to come together to immediately take action and implement a street light at the intersection of E Weber and N Santa Fe.
