As a member of this community and a student at a local high school, I am taking the initiative to voice our shared concerns about the dangerous intersection in our neighborhood (82nd Ave and 148th Dr), the scene of far too many accidents. My brother and many other children in our community frequently use this intersection on the way to school and sports practices. Unfortunately, reports have noted that this is the same intersection popular for its high number of traffic incidents.

I have firsthand experience of this hazardous intersection. On my way to a school performance one day, I was unfortunately involved in an accident. This traumatizing event, coupled with the knowledge of its risk to others, especially children on their way to school, instigated this call to action.

In midst of neighborhoods like ours, safety measures like stop signs play a crucial role. They have proven to reduce accident rates, with a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety showing that intersections with stop signs had 39% to 48% fewer collisions (IIHS, 2019). This petition is a plea to our local government and traffic authorities to prioritize our safety and well-being. 

Installing a stop sign at 82nd Ave (making this intersection a four way stop) can drastically reduce the risk of accidents, ensuring the safety of kids, parents, and all members of our community. I firmly believe that addressing this issue can make a significant improvement to the safety of our neighborhood. Please, support this initiative and help us make a change for the better.
