Implement a Second Defect Detector on the San Diego SUB Rail Line
Implement a Second Defect Detector on the San Diego SUB Rail Line
The Issue
I am passionate about railroad safety. As a local advocate for this cause, I am concerned about the current safety measures implemented, particularly on the San Diego Subdivision (SUB) rail line from San Diego to San Onofre. Notably, there is only one defect detector over this entire stretch. From my experience, the lack of another detector close to San Diego has led to significant safety issues. There have been instances where trains breakdown or encounter issues which could have been detected earlier, ensuring a faster response time and increased safety for the crew and passengers.
Local public transportation agencies - San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and North County Transit District (NCTD) - have the power and responsibility to rectify this safety concern. These agencies have made great strides in their commitment to safety, however, more can and should be done. Adding a second defect detector on the San Diego SUB rail line will greatly enhance the ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues early.
I urge SANDAG and NCTD to prioritize this project, as it has far-reaching implications for passenger safety and the efficiency of public transit in our city. The safety of thousands of passengers commuting between Oceanside and San Diego depends on our collective actions. Let's work together to ensure our local rail network is safe and efficient.
Please support this call to implement a second defect detector on the San Diego SUB rail line. Sign the petition. Your signature makes a safer ride for both crew and passengers. This would also make it better for us railfanners who want to film.
