The Issue

My daughter is students at Alton School, and they often come home hungry because they don't like the food options provided at lunch. This issue is personal to us, but it's not unique to our family. Many children would rather go hungry than eat food they don't enjoy or that doesn't make them feel good.

Childhood obesity is a significant problem in the United States, with nearly one in five school-age children suffering from obesity (source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Offering healthier options like a salad bar can help combat this issue by encouraging better eating habits from an early age.

Furthermore, research shows that when given a choice, many children will opt for healthier foods. A study published by the Journal of Child Nutrition & Management found that when schools offered salad bars as part of their lunch programs, fruit and vegetable consumption significantly increased.

By implementing a salad bar at Alton School, we can provide students with more choices while promoting healthy eating habits. This change won't just benefit my family; it will positively impact all students' health and well-being.

Please sign this petition to urge Alton School to implement a salad bar in their lunch program. Together we can make sure our kids have access to nutritious meals during their school day.
