Implement a Safe Crossing System at 6950 Michigan Rd

The Issue

Every day, I and many others struggle in fear while attempting to cross Michigan Road at the 6950 intersection. It gives me chills thinking about all the pedestrians I have seen hit here. Vulnerable individuals such as people in wheelchairs, mothers with children, and regular pedestrians trying to cross this dangerous intersection, which has been the site of numerous fatal accidents and hit-and-run incidents. The lack of a safe pedestrian crossing is an urgent concern that needs addressing.

Michigan Road is not only confusing but also dangerous due to the lack of clearly visible yellow or white lines. Vehicles, unfortunately, neither slow down nor stop for potential pedestrians, which adds to the risks. According to the National Safety Council, pedestrian deaths accounted for 17% of all traffic deaths in 2019, with a total of 6,205 people dying in pedestrian accidents.

We plead with our local government to pay attention to this deadly problem and take immediate action. We demand the implementation of a well-marked crosswalk or the construction of a pedestrian bridge at this location to provide a safer crossing alternative. We must prioritise the safety of our community and pedestrians over anything else. The time to act is now. Sign this petition to promote pedestrian safety at 6950 Michigan Rd.
