The Issue

Living on Cedar Road, Woodsmoor, used to bring convenience and peace of mind; however, this has drastically changed in recent years. Our street, once a quieter residential area, has become a daily battleground for scarce parking spaces. Commuters, hospital staff, and school drop-offs and pick-ups see our road as a convenient option, leaving families and working residents struggling to find parking near their own homes.

The influx of non-resident vehicles has escalated congestion to alarming levels. This not only obstructs emergency vehicle access but also raises significant safety concerns for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Residents of Cedar Road deserve to feel safe and have the ability to park near their homes without the ongoing stress and inconvenience caused by this parking frenzy.

It's time for Stockport Council to step in and address these issues. By introducing a Residents' Parking Permit Scheme, the council would provide a solution that ensures local residents have priority access to street parking, restoring balance and fairness, and greatly improving road safety. Such a scheme would deter non-resident parking while simultaneously reducing congestion and its associated hazards.

According to studies, implementing residential parking permits in areas with significant parking pressures has significantly improved availability and local traffic safety. We believe Cedar Road merits such consideration given its current plight.

We urge Stockport Council to conduct a thorough review of Cedar Road's parking challenges and to consider the swift implementation of a parking permit scheme. Our community's quality of life and safety depend on it. Join us in calling on the council to make this change by signing our petition today.
