We are students in Alberta, struggling to find safe and affordable living conditions. The rapidly increasing housing costs are making it increasingly difficult for us to secure stable accommodation. It's not just us; many residents across Alberta face the same predicament. According to the Canadian Rental Housing Index, over 40% of renters in Alberta spend more than 30% of their income on rent, which is considered unaffordable (source: Canadian Rental Housing Index). This situation is unsustainable and needs immediate attention.

We propose the implementation of a rent increase cap within Alberta. Such measures have been successful in other provinces like British Columbia and Ontario, where annual rent increases are limited by law (source: BC Residential Tenancy Branch & Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board). A similar policy could provide much-needed relief for renters in our province.
