Implement a Project Lifesaver program in Dorchester County

Implement a Project Lifesaver program in Dorchester County
The Issue
For over 15 years, I have dedicated my career as an Early Intervention Specialist to supporting countless children and their families. One heartbreaking challenge I frequently encounter is the stress and anxiety caregivers face when their children, especially those with conditions that predispose them to wander, elope or disappear momentarily. This is particularly harrowing for families in Dorchester County, where resources are limited.
Children who wander off are at an increased risk of facing dangerous situations. The fear and panic that grip a caregiver’s heart when a child goes missing is unimaginable. Yet, in Dorchester County, we have a viable solution to significantly mitigate this risk through a program called Project Lifesaver.
Project Lifesaver International is a renowned initiative designed to aid in locating individuals with cognitive disorders who are prone to sudden wandering. The program provides timely responses to help reduce potential injuries and fatalities. It works by equipping participants with a lightweight wristband that emits a personalized frequency signal. The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department can easily track these signals, facilitating swift and efficient search and rescue operations.
The statistics speak for themselves: according to Project Lifesaver's reports, they have facilitated the rescue of over 3,700 people since its inception. Rescue times, which average less than 30 minutes, illustrate the program's efficiency. Implementing such a program would not only ease the current anxiety faced by caregivers in Dorchester County but also ensure the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable citizens.
I urge the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department to consider the benefits of incorporating Project Lifesaver into their service offering. By doing so, they would be taking a proactive stance in safeguarding our community, particularly those with conditions such as autism or Alzheimer’s Disease known for their wandering tendencies.
Your support in signing this petition is crucial. We need to make sure our voices are heard and Project Lifesaver is implemented to make Dorchester County a safer place for everyone. Stand with me and all caregivers in this mission to protect our loved ones.
